Overview

I am a GP and Senior Clinical Lecturer of Primary Care in the Division of Population Medicine, School of Medicine, Cardiff University, and in PRIME Centre Wales (Health and Care Research Wales funded Wales Centre for Primary and Emergency Care Research. 

I conduct research with a focus on the diagnosis and management of common infections seen in primary care. I am particularly interested in urinary tract infections (UTI), but also the diagnosis and management of other common infections, diagnostic tests & clinical scoring systems, antimicrobial resistance, urinary microbiome and the diagnosis/identification of serious illness in children.

I am also interested in Women's Health, particularly menopause and migraine. 

I teach on the C21 medical programme and Intercalated BSC in Population Medicine.

Research

My main research interests are infections in primary care and women's health. A lot of my research has focused on urinary tract infections (UTI) and the diagnosis and identification of serious illness in children. I am also interested in other common infections, antibiotic use and antimicrobial resistance, point of care tests & the urinary microbiome. More recently I have become interested in women's health research, in particular relating to menopause and migraine.
