- Pharmacy education
Teaching
Teaching profile
I contribute to teaching throughout all four years of the undergraduate MPharm programme. This includes teaching and assessment of clinical and pharmacy practice, formulation science, critical appraisal and research methods. I also supervise final year research projects, both based within the department and based in practice environments through collaboration with practice-based colleagues.
In addition, I contribute to the MSc in Clinical Research, and MSc in Clinical Pharmacy, teaching qualitative research methods and marking MSc dissertations.
Biography
I began my pharmacy life at the University of Bath, where I gained my BPharm in 1996. Following this, I undertook my pre-registration training in community pharmacy, working for Cohen's Chemists. In 1997, having qualified as a registered pharmacist, I began my PhD at Cardiff University under the supervision of Dr. Cate Whittlesea and Prof. D.K. Luscombe, while still maintaining my professional role through weekly locum work in community pharmacy. After gaining my PhD in 2000, I carried out some follow-up research for a short spell before being appointed as a Teaching Fellow in the Welsh School of Pharmacy (as it was then known) in 2002.
I am now a senior lecturer with teaching responsibilities in a range of areas and across all years of the undergraduate programme, with a particular focus on research methods and communication/ consultation skills. In addition, I am involved in postgraduate programmes within the department, teaching research methods.
