Research
Yongchao is now a Research Associate on a Health and Care Research Wales (HCRW) funded project Ethnic and Religious Inequalities in Children Welfare (ERICA) exploring ethnic inequality in children’s social care by applying complex data linkage techniques with administrative data in Wales within SAIL databank.
Her research interests centre on examining how social institutions shape socioeconomic disparities among individuals based on individual attributes like gender, ethnicity, skill, and structural positions like employment type. In her prior investigations concerning adults, she explored how labour market institutions shape wage attainment processes. In her research focusing on children, she explored how the hukou system in China and the child welfare system in Wales contribute to disparities in education and health outcomes.
Biography
Yongchao holds a DPhil in Sociology from the University of Oxford. Before joining CASCADE, her work on labour market inequality analysed cross-national survey data with quantitative methods. She was also involved in projects on migration and children’s mental and physical health in China.
