Overview
My research focuses on the development, evaluation and implementation of psychological interventions for trauma-related disorders. Working within the Intervention Development workstream of the National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH), I have extensive experience of working in partnership with experts by lived experience to develop and evaluate novel psychological interventions, with particular expertise in qualitative and mixed-methods research.
My PhD involved the development and pilot evaluation of Spring PTSD, a guided internet-based intervention for PTSD. Spring PTSD has since been evaluated in clinical trials and is now being implemented across NHS Wales. I have subsequently played a key role in the development and evaluation of related interventions for Prolonged Grief Disorder (PGD) and Complex PTSD (CPTSD), as well as adaptations of Spring PTSD for military veterans and people with visual impairment.
I have conducted several Cochrane reviews and contributed to the development of clinical practice guidelines for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). I was also a member of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) treatment guidelines committee, where I led the synthesis of evidence on psychological therapies for PTSD. I am an Associate Editor for the European Journal of Psychotraumatology.
My wider research interests include innovative approaches to improving treatment for trauma-related disorders, including research on sleep and memory processes in PTSD, as well as PTSD occurring alongside other mental health and physical health conditions.
