Overview

I am the lecturer responsible for JOMEC’s Welsh language provision on our BA courses.

Before joining Cardiff University I was Deputy Editor of S4C's flagship current affairs programme 'Y Byd ar Bedwar'. I have a wide range of experience working bilingually as a reporter, producer and manager in the broadcast industry. To date, I have worked on over 70 current affairs programmes and many news reports for S4C and ITV Wales. Several of my programmes have been shortlisted for awards; a special report from the Philippines during the aftermath of Typhoon Hayian won a BAFTA Cymru for ‘Best Current Affairs Programme’ in 2014. I have also produced a number of documentary programmes for S4C and am a regular contributor on radio, TV and in print.

In developing our Welsh language pathway I work closely with industry and commerce, other HE institutions and with our students to design and deliver an innovative, original and distinct programme of study. This is supported by a range of educational resources to support anyone wishing to learn more about journalism, the media, communications and politics in Wales and beyond.

Currently, I am working on a collaborative project with journalists and third sector communications professionals exploring contemporary news media narratives on poverty in the English and Welsh language news media.

I organise a variety of events and workshops, including the 'Llais y Maes' project at the annual National Eisteddfod.

Biography

Rwy'n ddarlithydd gyda chyfrifoldeb am ddarpariaeth Gymraeg JOMEC ar ein cyrsiau BA.

Cyn ymuno â Phrifysgol Caerdydd roeddwn yn Ddirprwy Olygydd rhaglen materion cyfoes flaenllaw S4C 'Y Byd ar Bedwar'. Mae gen i ystod eang o brofiad yn gweithio’n ddwyieithog fel gohebydd, cynhyrchydd a rheolwr yn y diwydiant darlledu. Hyd yn hyn, rwyf wedi gweithio ar dros 70 o raglenni materion cyfoes a llawer o adroddiadau newyddion ar gyfer S4C ac ITV Cymru. Mae sawl un o fy rhaglenni wedi cyrraedd y rhestr fer ar gyfer gwobrau; enillodd adroddiad arbennig o Ynysoedd y Philipinau yn dilyn Typhoon Hayian BAFTA Cymru yn 2014. Rwyf hefyd wedi cynhyrchu nifer o raglenni dogfen ar gyfer S4C ac rwy'n gyfrannwr rheolaidd ar radio, teledu ac mewn print.

Wrth ddatblygu ein llwybr Cymraeg, rwy'n gweithio'n agos gyda'r diwydiant, sefydliadau Addysg Uwch eraill a gyda'n myfyrwyr i ddylunio a darparu rhaglen astudio arloesol, wreiddiol ac unigryw. Cefnogir hyn gan ystod o adnoddau addysgol i gefnogi unrhyw un sy'n dymuno dysgu mwy am newyddiaduraeth, y cyfryngau, cyfathrebu a gwleidyddiaeth yng Nghymru a thu hwnt.

Ar hyn o bryd, rwy'n gweithio ar brosiect cydweithredol gyda newyddiadurwyr a gweithwyr proffesiynol cyfathrebu trydydd sector sy'n archwilio naratif y cyfryngau newyddion ar dlodi yn Saesneg a Chymraeg. Rwy'n trefnu amrywiaeth o ddigwyddiadau a gweithdai, gan gynnwys prosiect 'Llais y Maes' yn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol.

Erbyn hyn rwyf wedi creu dau fodiwl 20 credyd ar gyfer pob blwyddyn israddedig ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd, sydd yn galluogi myfyrwyr i wneud cais ar gyfer ysgoloriaeth cymhelliant y Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.
