Teams and roles for Catherine Mackintosh
Lecturer in Management, Employment and Organisation
Overview
I am a HRM scholar whose research takes a critical lens to the employment relationship, motivated by my experiences as a HR practitioner. Prior to pursuing an academic career, I worked in numerous generalist HR roles across Bristol and Bath.
In 2021 I completed my ESRC funded PhD with Cardiff Business school. Prior to returning to CARBS as a member of staff, I held a lecturership at the University of the West of England.
I am a recipient of a Professor Mick Marchington Applied Research Grant 2023. The grant is awarded to exceptional early career researchers in HR and related fields, and supports my current research examining the retention of nurses via individualised working arrangements.
Since February 2025, I have held the position of Director of Student Experience and provide academic leadership on student representation within the Business School, ensuring that student voices are heard and acted upon. As part of this role, I advise on student experience matters, oversee key student events, and implement initiatives to improve communication and satisfaction.
I am an Associate member of the CIPD and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
