Overview
Emmajane has worked in the field of Education for over 20 years, enjoying a wide range of senior leadership roles within academia, policy development and the statutory school sector. In 2018 she became an Advance-HE National Teaching Fellow and her research/scholarship interests are focused on educational practice, teacher/educator professional learning and enquiry, educative approaches to leadership and mentoring and the recruitment and retention of education professionals.
Emmajane is currently a Professor in Educational Practice at Cardiff University and has a deep and sustained commitment to improving education practice in all spheres of Education. Her work is interdisciplinary and supports the educational leadership and practice of educators across all sectors and subject disciplines. She is dedicated to ensuring that practitioners have access to high quality professional learning that can support the ongoing development of their practice.
Emmajane has held strategic leadership roles in the University and beyond, including for the International Professional Development Association and both third sector and arts organisations in Wales. In November 2024 Emmajane was appointed by the Cabinet Secretary for Education to the board of Qualifications Wales and took up her role in January 2025.

Research
My research/scholarship interests are focused on educational practice, teacher/educator professional learning and enquiry, educative approaches to leadership and mentoring and the recruitment and retention of education professionals. I am also interested in what teaching-focused and/or thrid space professional can bring to the academy and how they can be best supported to flourish.
