Teaching
Teaching profile
Dr Raman teaches at undergraduate and masters. He lecture on various topics to undergraduate and masters including research methods, urban morphology mapping, modelling urban systems, design thinking, diagrams and design narratives. He is s strong believer on research lead teaching, learning from places and learning by doing.
Dr Raman lead the MArch Studio Unit: Liveable Urbanism.
Biography
Dr Raman is an architect and urban designer trained in the UK and India. He has over 20 year's experience in teaching, research and practicing architecture and urban design and has a number of completed projects in India and UK and number of peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters. On completion of his first degree in architecture, he worked with Dr B V Doshi at his international award-winning architectural practice 'Sangath' at Ahmedabad, India for over 4 years before moving to UK to pursue a masters and an academic career. His design team has been recently shortlisted in a prestigious international design competition for the National War Museum at New Delhi.
Dr Raman joint Welsh School of Architecture (WSA), Cardiff University in 2015 as a lecturer in architecture and urban design following a three year in China where is as the Course Director, lead the setting up and RIBA validation of the architecture programme at the University of Nottingham, Ningbo China. He is actively involved in the pedagogic development and in delivering design studio and theory modules in the undergraduate and masters in urban design.
His research interest and experience in designing sustainable urban neighbourhoods, urban design for aging, design of spaces and behaviour, social sustainability of cities, spatial network analysis, urban development in transitional economise. He is the Founder-Director of the research network called CityForm, which is investigating the relationship of urban form to urban sustainability and quality of life. He has presented his research or delivered keynote address in number of prestigious conferences around the worked including UN Habitat, Space Syntax Symposium and Smart Geometries. He has successfully supervised over 30 masters and PhD students in his area of research interests. In addition to UK, has lecture and taught in India, China, and South Korea.
