Professor of Childhood Studies

School of Social Sciences

Overview

EJ Renold is Professor of Childhood Studies in the School of Social Sciences, Cardiff University (Wales, UK). EJ works with co-productive and creative methodologies to attune to and platform how gender and sexuality come to matter in children and young people’s everyday lives across diverse spaces and places (www.productivemargins.ac.uk). Over the years, this praxis has engaged social and political change on young people’s experiences of gendered and sexual violence, including the co-production of RSE practitioner resources and professional learning. In 2017 EJ chaired the Welsh Government's expert panel on the future of sex and relationships education in Wales (Renold and McGeeney 2017) and is regularly consulted in supporting the implementation of the recommendations. EJ was the winner of the ESRC Impact in Society Prize (2018) and the Huw Owen Medal for Outstanding Educational Research in Wales (2021) and is the co-convenor of the British Education Research Association, Sexualities and Gender Special Interest Group (SIG).
