Principal Investigator - ESRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) 2023-2025

Have been awarded an ESRC IAA grant to work with the Cardiff Council on the project 'Making Neighbourhood Parks Inclusive for Teenage Girls and Young Women in Cardiff'. Through directly engaging with teenage girls and young women (TGYW) in Cardiff, this project aims to map the current use of park facilities by TGYW, develop a greater understanding of TGYW’s needs and aspirations for park use, build capacity for TGYW, and guide decision-makers on how to (re)design neighbourhood parks and their facilities in a gender-inclusive manner.

Have been awarded an ESRC grant to collaborate with a team of UK and South Korean researchers on the project 'Creating Prosperous City Centres Post-Pandemic Through Repurposing Retail Space'. Research

Informed by various economic theories, including New Institutional Economics and Behavioural Economics, my research explores the ways in which decision-makers can design land, housing, and planning policies that are more effective, efficient, and equitable. My policy research and practice experiences have been in an international context, involving projects in the USA, UK, Switzerland, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Spain, China, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Iran, and Mauritania.

My recent published works focus on the self-build and custom housebuilding sector in the UK, land policy in Switzerland, and housing development in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Previously, I examined the extent, drivers, and distribution of transaction costs in transferable development rights (TDR) programmes in the US state of Maryland. My research is highly regarded by experts in the field. I have been the winner of two prestigious awards: The Royal Town Planning Institute Award for Research Excellence 2018 and the Journal of the American Planning Association Article of the Year Award 2019.
