Overview

As the Programme Governance Senior Officer, Laura focuses on developing policies and processes to ensure smooth programme delivery, whilst maintaining an overview of governance and management arrangements across Media Cymru.  Working alongside the Programme Manager to satisfy UKRI grant requirements, she is responsible for overseeing the Quarterly Review Meetings, tracking and developing Project Plans for each project, data management and UK Subsidy Control compliance. Laura also directly supports research projects and is a member of the Media Cymru Research Group.

PhD Thesis

The representation of gender roles on children's public service broadcast television.

Through both textual analysis and ethnography, the PhD research investigates how gender roles are represented on public service broadcast television and understood by pre-school children between the ages of 3-5.

Biography

After completing both a BA (Hons) and MA by Research in Media, Culture and Journalism at University of South Wales, Laura started her Higher Education Career as a Graduate Intern at University South Wales within the Centre for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching Department conducting pedagogical research. This research addressed issues such as personal tutoring, learning technology and the student experience within Higher Education. Upon completion of this research role, Laura then moved to Cardiff University where she worked on a Welsh European Funding Office (WEFO) research project, ASTUTE, at the School of Engineering. In 2017, Laura also started a part-time PhD at JOMEC that investigates the representation of gender roles on children's public service broadcast television. Laura has published research within this area, as well as being a Guest Lecturer and PGR Teaching Assistant at both the University of South Wales and Cardiff University. Laura is also an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
