Overview
Dr Hayley Wyatt is a Lecturer across the Medical and Mechanical undergraduate degree schemes at Cardiff University, with teaching duties focusing on finite element modelling and teaching design based group projects. Hayley has been teaching at Cardiff University since 2017. She is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the IMechE. Her primary area of research is within the field of soft tissue mechanics and finite element modelling, including material characterisation using optical measurement techniques and application of soft tissue mechanics in medical device design.
Recently Hayley has been part of a large collaborative project working to design a novel microneedle array. This project has involved working with industrial and academic partners within the UK and internationally. The project has provided an excellent opportunity to use her knowledge of skin behaviour and finite element analysis to help inform the design of the microneedle array.
Before becoming a Lecturer, Hayley worked across a number of different research projects, including being a project office at ASTUTE where she worked on an industrially focused project investigating the use of surface textures in hip implants. Hayley then became a research associate on an EPSRC funded project at the School of Mathematics investigating the behaviour of soft cellular structures.
