Professor Marysia Zalewski
Professor of International Relations and Director of Equality, Dignity and Inclusion
- Available for postgraduate supervision
Overview
I have degrees from the University of East Anglia and the University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
Most of my work is about studying global politics using critical feminist theories. I have published widely in this area (seven internationally acclaimed books, and author or co-author of some 50 plus essays/articles in peer reviewed outputs). My research has been supported by the British Academy, The Royal Society of Edinburgh, The Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland and The British Council.
I am a recipient of an Eminent Scholarship awarded by the International Studies Association awarded in 2013. This was for my international research profile particularly in the development of critical IR in the discipline, and for mentorship of junior scholars. I was the first British scholar to receive this particular award since its inception in 1990.
I am currently one of the Editors-in-Chief of the journal International Feminist Journal of Politics and co-series editor of the book series Creative Interventions in Global Politics (Rowman & Littlefield International).
My research is located at the intersections of critical international relations theory, feminist theory (broadly conceived), queer theory and political theory. My mode of enquiry is (loosely) poststructural. Currently I am engaged in critical projects on sexual violence against men, the future of sexual violence, performance and knowledge production in international politics and creative writing in IR.
I have has extensive senior management experience (including being Head of School of Social Science at the University of Aberdeen (2011-2014)).
