Overview
Dr Zhihua Xie is a Reader in the School of Engineering at Cardiff University. He obtained Ph.D. in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in 2010 from the University of Leeds, funded by the Marie Curie EST Fellowship. He previously worked as a Research Associate in Computational Hydraulics at Cardiff University from 2010 to 2012 before working as a Research Associate in Numerical Modelling of Multiphase Flows at Imperial College London between 2013 and 2016. In January 2017, he was hired as a Lecturer of Fluid Mechanics in the School of Engineering at Cardiff University and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in August 2019 and Reader in August 2022. He hosted the Royal Society Newton Advanced Fellowship in 2020 and awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers in 2023.
His main research interest is in development and application of CFD codes (FVM, FDM, FEM) for predicting interfacial and multiphase flows in environmental and industrial problems. His research is funded by EPSRC, Royal Society and British Council. He is a member of the UKRI Talent Panel College and EPSRC Peer Review College, Leadership Team of International Association for HydroEnvironment Engineering and Research (IAHR) Technical Committee on Coastal and Maritime Hydraulics, and Technical Program Committee for International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE). He is an Editorial Board Member for Applied Ocean Research and Scientific Reports.
