Trosolwyg
Rwy'n archeolegydd sy'n arbenigo ym maes Neolithig Prydain ac Iwerddon o fewn cyd-destun ehangach gogledd-orllewin Ewrop. Mae gen i ddiddordeb arbennig mewn henebion ac rwyf wedi arwain prosiectau ymchwil sy'n archwilio pensaernïaeth beddi siambr yng Nghymru, yr Alban ac Iwerddon. Mae gen i ddiddordeb hirdymor hefyd mewn addysgu ac ymchwilio i hela a chasglu cymunedau ar raddfa fyd-eang.
Ar hyn o bryd rwy'n Bennaeth yr Ysgol Hanes, Archaeoleg a Chrefydd, rôl a ddechreuais yn 2023. Rwyf hefyd yn gyd-gadeirydd University Archaeology UK (gyda'r Athro Andy Gardner yn UCL) sy'n cynrychioli ac yn eirioli dros bob adran archaeoleg yn y DU.
Fy mhrosiectau ymchwil presennol yw:
Hanesion dwfn mudo: archwilio'r Neolithig cynnar o amgylch Môr y Gogledd (gyda Dr Rune Iversen ym Mhrifysgol Copenhagen a'r Athro Dani Hofmann ym Mhrifysgol Bergen). Mae'r prosiect hwn yn ymchwilio i ddechrau a lledaeniad y Neolithig mewn ardaloedd o amgylch Môr y Gogledd. Ein nod yw adeiladu ar naratifau DNA hynafol, ac ehangu'n feirniadol, y foment bontio allweddol hon mewn cynhanes.
Beddrodau siambr Orkney (gyda Dr Hugo Anderson-Whymark yn Amgueddfeydd Cenedlaethol yr Alban). Mae'r prosiect hwn yn edrych o'r newydd ar ddilyniant beddrod siambr Orkney, gyda gwaith cloddio yn Nhresness, Sanday a Blomar, Mainland, sy'n darparu deunydd newydd i ddeall y gwaith o adeiladu a defnyddio'r safleoedd hyn.
-Hynafol DNA a kinship yn gynnar ym Mhrydain Neolithig (gyda'r Athro Chris Fowler ym Mhrifysgol Newcastle). Gan adeiladu ar ganlyniadau cyffrous yr astudiaeth o aDNA o Ogledd Hazleton rydym yn archwilio pensaernïaeth berthynas a phensaernïaeth goffaol ledled Prydain.
-Neolithig Ynysoedd y Gogledd (gyda'r Athro Jane Downes a'r Athro Colin Richards yn UHI). Trwy gloddio safleoedd aneddiadau ar Orkney a Shetland, rydym yn archwilio anheddiad cynnar yr ynysoedd hyn (mae'r safleoedd ar ôl cloddio).

Ymchwil
Prosiectau ymchwil cyfredol
Hanesion dwfn mudo: archwilio'r Neolithig cynnar o amgylch Môr y Gogledd (gyda Dr Rune Iversen ym Mhrifysgol Copenhagen a'r Athro Dani Hofmann ym Mhrifysgol Bergen). Wedi'i ariannu gan Gronfa Ymchwil Annibynnol Denmarc, mae'r prosiect hwn yn ymchwilio i ddechrau a lledaeniad y Neolithig mewn ardaloedd o amgylch Môr y Gogledd. Ein nod yw adeiladu ar naratifau DNA hynafol, ac ehangu'n feirniadol, y foment bontio allweddol hon mewn cynhanes.
Beddrodau siambr Orkney (gyda Dr Hugo Anderson-Whymark yn Amgueddfeydd Cenedlaethol yr Alban). Mae'r prosiect hwn yn edrych o'r newydd ar ddilyniant beddrod siambr Orkney, gyda gwaith cloddio yn Nhresness, Sanday a Blomar, Mainland, sy'n darparu deunydd newydd i ddeall y gwaith o adeiladu a defnyddio'r safleoedd hyn. Rydym wedi derbyn cyllid gan yr Academi Brydeinig, y Sefydliad Archeolegol Brenhinol, Cyngor Ynysoedd Erch a Chymdeithas Hynafiaethau Llundain ar gyfer y prosiect hwn.
-Hynafol DNA a kinship yn gynnar ym Mhrydain Neolithig ( gyda'r Athro Chris Fowler ym Mhrifysgol Newcastle). Gan adeiladu ar ganlyniadau cyffrous yr astudiaeth o aDNA o Ogledd Hazleton rydym yn archwilio pensaernïaeth berthynas a phensaernïaeth goffaol ledled Prydain.
-Neolithig Ynysoedd y Gogledd (gyda'r Athro Jane Downes a'r Athro Colin Richards yn UHI). Trwy gloddio safleoedd aneddiadau ar Orkney a Shetland, rydym yn archwilio anheddiad cynnar yr ynysoedd hyn (mae'r safleoedd ar ôl cloddio). Cefnogwyd y prosiect hwn gyda chyllid gan Gyngor Ynysoedd Erch.
Prosiectau ymchwil wedi'u cwblhau
-Adeiladu dolmens mawr gogledd-orllewin Ewrop (gyda'r Athro Colin Richards yn UHI). Bu'r prosiect hwn yn ymchwilio i bensaernïaeth Dolmen Prydain, Iwerddon a Denmarc mewn cyd-destun ehangach yng ngogledd Ewrop. Elwodd y prosiect o gyllid gan y Sefydliad Archeolegol Brenhinol a'r Academi Brydeinig (cymrodoriaeth ganol gyrfa). Fe'i cyhoeddir fel monograff gan Windgather.
-The Southern Kintyre Project (gyda Dr Gary Robinson ym Mhrifysgol Bangor). Bu'r prosiect hwn yn ymchwilio i'r tirweddau Mesolithig a Neolithig o amgylch beddrod siambrog Blasthill, ochr yn ochr â chloddi'r heneb hon. Fe'i hariannwyd gan yr Academi Brydeinig, Ymddiriedolaeth Elusennol Robert Kiln, y Sefydliad Archeolegol Brenhinol a'r Gymdeithas Cynhanesyddol. Fe'i cyhoeddir fel monograff Archaeopress.
- Henebion Neolithig cynnar parth Môr Iwerddon. Wedi'i ariannu gan yr Academi Brydeinig ac Ymddiriedolaeth Leverhulme, roedd y prosiect hwn yn ystyried lleoliad tirwedd y beddrodau siambr a ddarganfuwyd o amgylch Môr Iwerddon. Fe'i cyhoeddir fel monograff Oxbow.
Henebion Bargrennan yn ne-orllewin yr Alban (gyda'r Athro Chris Fowler ym Mhrifysgol Newcastle). Cloddiwyd beddrodau siambr Cairnderry a Bargrennan a ddatgelodd gyfres ddiddorol o ddigwyddiadau ar y safleoedd hyn, gan gynnwys dyddodiad nodedig o'r Oes Efydd gynnar. Elwodd y prosiect ar gyllid gan yr Academi Brydeinig, Cymdeithas Hynafiaethau Llundain a'r Gymdeithas Cynhanesyddol. Cyhoeddwyd y cloddiadau fel monogragh British Archaeological Reports.
Bywgraffiad
Cymerais fy BA, MA a PhD ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd, gan astudio dan yr Athro Alasdair Whittle. Ar ôl hynny, roeddwn yn Gynorthwyydd Ymchwil i'r Bwrdd Astudiaethau Celtaidd ac yna'n Gydymaith Ymchwil mewn Archaeoleg Neolithig ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd. Yn 2004 symudais i Brifysgol Canol Swydd Gaerhirfryn (UCLan) lle gwnes i ddylunio a sefydlu gradd newydd mewn Archaeoleg. Yn 2018 cefais gadair bersonol, yr athro archeoleg cyntaf erioed yn UCLan. Trwy gydol fy amser yn y sefydliad, roeddwn yn arweinydd ymchwil ar gyfer Archaeoleg, ac roeddwn hefyd yn Ddirprwy Bennaeth (Ymchwil) ac yn rhan o Uwch Dîm Rheoli'r Ysgol am chwe blynedd. Yn 2023 dychwelais i Gaerdydd ar ôl bron i ugain mlynedd i ffwrdd i ymgymryd â rôl Pennaeth yr Ysgol.
