Ymchwil
Pynciau ymchwil a phapurau cysylltiedig
Mae fy ymchwil yn canolbwyntio ar seicoleg agweddau. Mae gen i ddiddordeb mewn cwestiynau fel sut ydyn ni'n ffurfio ac yn trefnu ein barn? Sut mae ein barn yn newid ac esblygu dros amser? Er enghraifft, dyma wahanol fathau o gwestiynau yr wyf wedi bod yn eu hastudio:
Sut mae gwahanol bobl yn ymateb i wahanol fathau o apeliadau perswadiol?
Pan oeddwn i'n tyfu i fyny, arferai fod cyfres o hysbysebion teledu enwog lle roedd cyn-athletwyr proffesiynol yn codi eu dewis ar gyfer brand penodol o gwrw. Er bod rhai o'r athletwyr yn nodi bod y cwrw yn blasu'n wych, atebodd eraill ei fod yn llai llenwi na chwrw eraill. O safbwynt agweddau, Gallwch ddweud bod rhan gyntaf y neges yn tynnu sylw at ymateb affeithiol cadarnhaol sy'n gysylltiedig â'r diod (h.y., ei flas), tra bod yr ail ran yn tynnu sylw at briodoledd gadarnhaol am y diod (hy, ei faint o galorïau isel). Gan ddefnyddio'r gyfatebiaeth hon, mae gen i a minnau ddiddordeb mewn gwybod a yw rhai pobl yn fwy argyhoeddedig gan bobl affeithiol ac eraill yn fwy argyhoeddedig gan apêl wybyddol. Hyd yn hyn, mae ein hymchwil (gweler Haddock a Maio, 2019) wedi dangos bod effeithiolrwydd negeseuon sy'n seiliedig ar affeithiol a gwybyddiaeth yn dibynnu ar wahaniaethau unigol mewn angen am effeithio (Maio & Esses, 2001) a'r angen am wybyddiaeth (Cacioppo & Petty, 1982).
Sut mae ymwybyddiaeth ofalgar yn ymwneud â phrosesau atodol?
Yn fwy diweddar, rwyf wedi dod â diddordeb mewn inciau posibl rhwng ymwybyddiaeth ofalgar a ffenomenau atodol . Mae ymwybyddiaeth ofalgar yn adlewyrchu ymwybyddiaeth ymwybodol o'r hyn sy'n digwydd yn y presennol, gyda llai o sylw yn cael ei roi i sibrydion am y gorffennol neu bryderon am y dyfodol. Mae nifer o ffrydiau ymchwil wedi dogfennu'r manteision seicolegol sy'n gysylltiedig â lefelau uwch o ymwybyddiaeth ofalgar. Yn ein gwaith, rydym yn ceisio deall sut mae ymwybyddiaeth ofalgar yn gysylltiedig â chynnwys, strwythur a swyddogaeth agweddau, yn ogystal â sut mae ymwybyddiaeth ofalgar yn gysylltiedig â chanlyniadau fel ymddygiad bwyta a chysylltiadau rhwng grwpiau.
Sut mae aflonyddu plant yn effeithio ar ymddygiad?
Ar hyn o bryd mae fy nghydweithredwyr a minnau yn ymchwilio i sut mae salience plant yn dylanwadu ar effaith, gwybyddiaeth ac ymddygiad. Er enghraifft, rydym wedi canfod bod primio pobl sydd â'r cysyniad o blant yn arwain at fwy o bwysigrwydd ynghlwm wrth werthoedd hunangynwysoldeb a llai o bwysigrwydd ynghlwm wrth hunan-wella. Rydym wedi derbyn cyllid gan yr ESRC i ymchwilio ymhellach i'r materion hyn.

Grŵp ymchwil
Rwy'n aelod o'r grŵp ymchwil seicoleg gymdeithasol ac amgylcheddol .
Cydweithredwyr ymchwil
Yn yr Ysgol, fy nghydweithredwyr cynradd yw Thomas Vaughn-Johnston, Travis Proulx, ac Ulrich von Hecker. Mae cydweithwyr allanol diweddar yn cynnwys cydweithwyr o Brifysgol Caerfaddon, City Univerity, Prifysgol Abertawe, Prifysgol Caerwysg, Prifysgol Sheffield, Prifysgol Reading, yn ogystal â chydweithwyr o Israel, yr Eidal a'r Iseldiroedd.
Addysgu
Ym mlwyddyn 2, rwy'n addysgu ar y modiwl Seicoleg Gymdeithasol, lle mae fy narlithoedd yn ymdrin â phynciau altrusim, ymddygiad ymosodol ac ymddygiad iechyd.
Yn y flwyddyn olaf, rwy'n addysgu ar y modiwl Agweddau a Newid Agweddau. Nodau'r modiwl yw: (a) datblygu dealltwriaeth myfyrwyr o'r cysyniad o agwedd a'i bwysigrwydd mewn seicoleg gymdeithasol a (b) gwneud myfyrwyr yn gyfarwydd â damcaniaethau agwedd ac, yn arbennig, yr ymchwil a ddefnyddiwyd i brofi'r damcaniaethau hyn .
Mae goruchwylio prosiectau ym maes seicoleg agweddau.
Bywgraffiad
Addysg israddedig
Mynychais Brifysgol Toronto, lle derbyniais fy B.Sc. yn 1989.
Addysg ôl-raddedig
Cwblheais fy PhD ym Mhrifysgol Waterloo. Roedd fy nhraethawd PhD yn archwilio i ba raddau y mae gwybodaeth affeithiol a gwybyddol yn dylanwadu'n wahanol ar agweddau ar draws unigolion. Ar ôl cwblhau fy PhD, treuliais flwyddyn fel cymrawd ôl-ddoethurol ym Mhrifysgol Michigan cyn symud i'r Deyrnas Unedig ym 1995.

Os oes gennych ddiddordeb mewn gwneud cais am PhD, neu am ragor o wybodaeth am fy ymchwil ôl-raddedig, cysylltwch â mi'n uniongyrchol (manylion cyswllt ar gael ar y dudalen 'Trosolwg'), neu gyflwyno cais ffurfiol.
