Trosolwyg
Rwy'n arwain y Labordy Arbrawf Meddygol, Dylunio + Cyfrifiadurol llwyddiannus (MED + CL). Rydym yn arbenigwr sy'n cynhyrchu gwybodaeth newydd i ddeall a chadw strwythur a swyddogaeth meinwe feddal. Rydym yn defnyddio cyfuniad o ddulliau arbrofol a thechnegau cyfrifiadurol i ddeall ymddygiad materol, cyn cynnig atebion arloesol i amddiffyn strwythur a swyddogaeth meinwe.
Mae fy ymchwil yn canolbwyntio'n benodol ar ddeall ac amddiffyn y pen a'r ymennydd. Ar hyn o bryd rydym yn ymchwilio i iechyd y pen ar draws llawer o chwaraeon, gan fabwysiadu galluoedd delweddu'r ymennydd newydd ac ymchwilio i dechnolegau cyfredol a thechnolegau sy'n dod i'r amlwg i wella lles athletwyr. Mae ein hymchwil ehangach sy'n gysylltiedig â chwaraeon hefyd yn ein gweld yn gweithio gyda'r sector masnachol, pwyllgorau Safonau (yn y DU a'r UD), a chyrff llywodraethu cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol. Mae un cydweithrediad o'r fath wedi arwain at brotocol prawf newydd ar gyfer arwynebau synthetig, a fydd yn cael ei fabwysiadu cyn bo hir fel llwybr i leihau risg anafiadau i'r croen.
Mae gen i ddiddordeb mawr hefyd mewn ymchwil gyda chyflawniadau clinigol posibl. Gyda dros 20 mlynedd o brofiad mewn biomecaneg orthopedig, rwy'n canolbwyntio ar ddeall ac efelychu ymddygiad meinweoedd, i gyfarwyddo technegau ac atebion llawfeddygol yn y dyfodol. Mae gen i ddiddordeb hefyd mewn biomecaneg cardiaidd, gan gynnwys astudiaeth a ariannwyd gan EPSRC yn ddiweddar sy'n ymchwilio i dwf ac ailfodelu, ac yn ddiweddar rwyf wedi cymryd rhan mewn gwella diagnosteg sy'n gysylltiedig â chanser, trwy drosoli ein buddsoddiad seilwaith EPSRC diweddar I ddechrau datblygu rhithdybiaethau delweddu newydd.

Addysgu
Rwy'n addysgu amrywiaeth o bynciau sy'n ystyried biomecaneg cyhyrysgerbydol, a sut y gall gweithredu dyluniad arloesol ychwanegu at y maes gwerthfawr hwn. Mae'r modiwlau hyn yn cynnwys:
- EN2451 - Biomecaneg 1, gan ganolbwyntio ar hanfodion y system gyhyrysgerbydol.
- EN3450 - Biomecaneg 2, gan ystyried gweithredu technolegau sy'n dod i'r amlwg i ddylunio a gweithgynhyrchu mewnblaniadau sy'n benodol i gleifion.
- EN4107 - Biomecaneg a Pheirianneg Biofeddygol, gan arwain cyfres o brosiectau grŵp sy'n canolbwyntio ar her benodol o fewn y sector ac sy'n cael eu noddi fel arfer gan glinigwr neu ddiwydiant. Gall enghreifftiau gynnwys dylunio dyfeisiau meddygol, datblygu strategaethau adsefydlu newydd, neu ofal gwell i gleifion.
- EN4119 - Ergonomeg, sy'n ymchwilio i lwybrau i wella cysur ac ymarferoldeb, a thystiolaeth trwy gynhyrchu cynnyrch newydd sy'n canolbwyntio ar ryngweithio dynol-amgylcheddol, sydd wedyn yn cael ei brofi ar boblogaeth cyfranogwyr.
Gweithiais hefyd fel Pennaeth y Mecanyddol, Meddygol a Gweithgynhyrchu (2013-17), ac ar hyn o bryd rwy'n Diwtor ar gyfer y cynllun gradd israddedig Peirianneg Feddygol. Rwyf hefyd yn Uwch Gymrawd yn Advanced AU (gynt yr Academi Addysg Uwch).
Bywgraffiad
Mae fy ymchwil yn canolbwyntio ar ryngwyneb peirianneg a meddygaeth. Ochr yn ochr â'm tîm, ein nod yw nodi atebion newydd a newydd i leihau'r risg o farwolaeth, morbidrwydd ac anaf, gyda diddordeb arbennig mewn cymhwyso i chwaraeon ac orthopaedeg. Mae ein hymchwil o natur sylfaenol a chymhwysol, sy'n golygu ein bod yn gweithio gydag amrywiaeth o academaidd, cydweithredwyr clinigol a diwydiannol yn y DU a thramor. Yn fewnol, mae gen i aelodaeth yn y grwpiau ymchwil Gweithgynhyrchu Gwerth Uchel, a Pheirianneg Feddygol.
Mae fy nhîm ymchwil yn canolbwyntio'n bennaf ar leihau anafiadau i'r pen mewn amgylcheddau chwaraeon a gwrthdrawiadau. Mae hyn yn cynnwys gwaith 'awyr las', wrth i ni geisio deall yn well y berthynas rhwng effaith ac iechyd y pen, tra hefyd yn gweithio gyda diwydiant i greu atebion mwy effeithiol, amddiffynnol.
Mae fy ymchwil hefyd yn cynnwys sbectrwm ehangach o beirianneg a gymhwysir i feddygaeth, sy'n golygu ein bod yn gweithio gydag amrywiaeth o gydweithwyr clinigol a chydweithwyr academaidd yn y DU a thramor. Rwy'n weithgar mewn orthopaedeg - yn enwedig o edrych ar sut y gall gweithgynhyrchu ychwanegion wella gofal cleifion. Rydym hefyd wedi gweithio i ymchwilio i sut mae ymddygiad biomecancial meinwe cardiaidd yn newid gydag oedran, Roedd yn cynnwys y prosiect a ddaeth i ben yn ddiweddar a ariannwyd gan y Cyngor Ymchwil Peirianneg a'r Gwyddorau Ffisegol, ochr yn ochr â chanolfan fawreddog SoftMECH (Prifysgol Glasgow) a Phrifysgol Abertawe.
Symudais i Ysgol Peirianneg Caerdydd i ddarllen fy PhD mewn biomecaneg meinwe feddal, gan ganolbwyntio ar safle mewnosod Tendo Achilles. Perfformiais gyfres o ddadansoddiadau biofecanyddol ac anatomegol, datgelu'r rhyngweithio cymhleth rhwng meinweoedd cyfagos sy'n sicrhau y gall y rhyngwyneb wrthsefyll llwythi mor uchel. Cefais fy ngoruchwylio gan yr Athro Len Nokes (Ysgol Peirianneg), y diweddar Athro Mike Benjamin (Ysgol y Biowyddorau) a'r diweddar Athro Colin Dent (Ysgol Meddygaeth).
Rwyf bellach yn arbenigwr cydnabyddedig ym maes Peirianneg Feddygol ac yn adolygu grantiau a phapurau yn aml, ac yn archwilio myfyrwyr, ledled y DU ac yn rhyngwladol.
