Ym mis Mehefin 2008, ymunodd â Phrifysgol Caerdydd fel Darlithydd ac fe'i dyrchafwyd wedyn yn Uwch Ddarlithydd yn 2013, yn Ddarllenydd yn 2014, ac yn Athro yn 2015. Cyn ei benodiad yng Nghaerdydd, bu'n Gymrawd Ymchwil ym Mhrifysgol Manceinion rhwng 2006 a 2008.
Mae'r Athro Wu yn arbenigo ym meysydd Grid Clyfar a Systemau Ynni Aml-fector, sy'n cwmpasu seilwaith ynni integredig. Mae'n cael ei gydnabod fel un o'r ymchwilwyr arloesol a gychwynnodd a sefydlodd feysydd ymchwil systemau ynni aml-fector a masnachu ynni Cymheiriaid i Gymheiriaid, sydd wedi dod i'r amlwg fel dau faes hanfodol o ymchwil ynni ledled y byd. Mae wedi cyfrannu at fwy na 70 o brosiectau y Comisiwn Ewropeaidd, cynghorau ymchwil ac arloesi'r DU, a phrosiectau a ariennir gan ddiwydiant naill ai'n Brif Ymchwilydd neu'n Gyd-Ymchwilydd. Mae ei ymchwil wedi arwain at dros 300 o gyhoeddiadau a adolygwyd gan gymheiriaid, gan gynnwys 16 Papur Clarivate ESI Highly Cited Papers, a 5 papur a gyhoeddwyd yn Nature Journals (Nature Energy, Nature Communications a Nature Scientific Data). Yn ogystal, mae wedi cyd-awdur sawl llyfr, gan gynnwys "Smart Grid: Technology and Applications" (2012, Wiley), "Smart Electricity Distribution Networks" (2017, CRC) a "The Future of Gas Networks" (2019, Springer).

Mae'r Athro Wu yn aelod o Weithgor Ynni Tacsonomeg Llywodraeth y DU, sy'n darparu cyngor arbenigol i'r Llywodraeth ar ddatblygu meini prawf sgrinio technegol (TSC) yn y sector ynni. Fe'i gwahoddwyd hefyd fel Tyst i gymryd rhan yn ymchwiliad Pwyllgor Gwyddoniaeth a Thechnoleg Tŷ'r Cyffredin i rôl hydrogen wrth gyflawni Sero Net. Yn ogystal, mae wedi gwasanaethu fel aelod o banel technegol Northern Powergrid o gynllun busnes ED2.
