Overview
I am a medievalist and literary scholar, specializing in early Welsh poetry and medieval Welsh literature. I am also a comparatist and study and compare Old English, Middle English, and medieval Latin texts. I seek to look at what can be learnt by bringing divergent contemporary literary traditions into dialogue with one another. I also undertake comparative research between vernacular and Latin texts from medieval Wales and across different Celtic languages and literatures. Other areas of special interest include examining how modern literary theory and works of medieval literature can be mutually informative, and studying the post-medieval evolution of medieval texts. This was the subject of my latest book Trawsffurfio'r Seintiau on the trilingual hagiographic anthology Yale, Osborn fb229 (University of Wales Press, 2024).
Currently, I am contributing to a major project to edit and study the medieval Welsh Merlin poems.
